The ISCAR 5504409 is an uncoated cermet boring insert in the TPGX220 style, designed for precision internal turning and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. Part of the Isoturn series, this triangular insert features a 60-degree included angle, a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0079-inch corner radius, making it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where tight tolerances and surface finish quality are critical. The IC20N cermet grade delivers high hardness and wear resistance in dry or minimal-lubrication cutting conditions. Installation and toolpath setup are typically handled by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians working within turning centers or boring bars.
This insert is rated for primary workpiece materials including stainless steel and carbon and alloy steel, corresponding to ISO material groups M and P. The left-hand orientation and positive rake geometry reduce cutting forces on thin-walled bores and are appropriate for finishing operations where deflection control matters. Maximum depth of cut is 0.098 inches. It fits standard TPGX-style boring bar pockets and insert holders designed for a 0.25-inch inscribed circle triangle insert with a 0.1378-inch hole diameter.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement insert for TPGX-style boring bars and insert holders accepting a 0.25-inch inscribed circle triangular insert with a 0.1378-inch mounting hole diameter, material grades C6, C7, and C8.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the boring bar manufacturer to achieve proper clamping torque without over-tightening the insert screw. Confirm correct left-hand orientation before seating. Inspect the pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris prior to installation to ensure full insert contact and prevent micro-movement during cutting.
