The ISCAR 3409663 is a laydown-style internal threading insert designed for cutting Unified National (UN) thread forms at 13 threads per inch (TPI). Ground from solid carbide in the IC908 grade, this insert delivers consistent thread geometry in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials where edge wear resistance and heat toughness are critical. The 08IR series designation identifies the insert size and profile, while the 60-degree included angle matches standard UN and Metric thread forms. The Z chipbreaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation during internal threading passes. Machinists and CNC lathe operators working in production or job-shop environments rely on this grade for threading operations requiring tight tolerances.
This insert is suited for internal threading on CNC turning centers and manual lathes where UN-standard threads are being cut in steel, stainless, or alloy workpieces. At 13 TPI, it covers a range of common fastener and fitting thread pitches used across general machining, hydraulic component production, and precision part manufacturing. Right-hand thread cutting orientation is standard on this insert, making it compatible with conventional internal threading toolholders in the IR series.
Designed for use with ISCAR IR series internal threading toolholders accepting 08IR laydown inserts. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert seat dimensions before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert without cracking the carbide. Inspect the insert seat and clamping pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can cause insert rocking and premature edge failure.
