The ISCAR 3398382 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for demanding metal removal in roughing and finishing operations. It features a 1/2 inch diameter with a 0.015 inch corner radius, five flutes, and an extra-long 2-1/2 inch length of cut on a 5 inch overall length. The AlTiCrSiN PVD coating provides heat and wear resistance for high-performance cutting in ferrous and exotic materials. The variable index flute geometry reduces chatter and improves surface finish. A right-hand cutting and flute direction suits standard CNC machining center setups. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers in production and job shop environments.
The 3398382 is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Its extended reach and 2-1/2 inch reach length make it appropriate for deep pocket milling, tall wall finishing, and contour work where standard-length end mills cannot reach. The straight-cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance mounts directly into compatible toolholders. The submicron carbide grade and AlTiCrSiN coating support both roughing and finishing passes on difficult-to-machine alloys and hardened workpiece materials.
Part of the ISCAR ECI-5-VF series, catalog number ECI-5 .5-2.5C.015VF5. Designed for use with standard straight-cylindrical toolholders accepting a 1/2 inch shank diameter. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO material codes P, M, K, S, H).
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be powered down and locked out before inserting or removing the tool from the toolholder. Verify toolholder bore condition and runout before clamping; excessive runout accelerates edge wear on fine-tolerance carbide end mills. Confirm cutting parameters — spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut — match the workpiece material and toolpath strategy before initiating a cut.
