The ISCAR 3355054 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Finished with a PVD-applied TiCN coating and carrying the IC354 grade designation, this insert targets stainless steel and steel workpieces in demanding material groups M and P. It features a 0.118 inch cutting width, a double-ended design that extends tool life between index cycles, and a self-grip holding method that secures the insert without additional clamping hardware. The positive rake geometry and 7-degree rake angle reduce cutting forces and heat buildup at the edge. Qualified machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of the Cut-Grip system toolholder lineup.
This insert is applied in precision turning operations where consistent groove width and surface finish are required on stainless steel and carbon steel parts. The W chip breaker geometry manages chip evacuation in continuous grooving passes. It is suited for both light production runs and high-cycle environments where insert changeout speed matters. The double-end configuration makes it a cost-effective option in shops running medium to high volumes of groove-intensive components.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders accepting the GIM 3-4 insert size. ISO code GIM 3-4LA IC354 identifies the insert within the Cut-Grip system. Confirm toolholder bore and insert seat specifications before installation.
This insert is installed and indexed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing any cutting insert. Verify that the toolholder seat and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before inserting. Do not exceed the cutting parameters recommended by ISCAR for the IC354 grade and the specific workpiece material being machined.
