The ISCAR 3323473 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for high-feed face milling operations in the MILL4FEED series. It carries the ANSI designation FFQ4 SOMT 1205RM-HP in grade IC830, a Sumotec PVD-applied AlTiN plus TiN coating engineered for wear resistance and thermal stability. The insert features a square shape with a 90-degree included angle, four cutting edges, a positive rake geometry, and an HP chip breaker profile. With a 0.205-inch thickness, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1.60 mm corner radius, it is sized for productive metal removal at controlled depths. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists install this insert in production milling applications.
This insert is rated for primary use on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials, covering ISO material groups P, M, and S. It is suited for high-feed milling strategies where maximum depth of cut is 0.059 inch per pass. The HP chip breaker geometry supports positive cutting action on difficult-to-machine alloys. It is compatible with FFQ4 cutter series bodies and is held in place by a screw-type clamping method. Typical applications include roughing and semi-finishing passes on aerospace components, stainless fabrications, and general machining of steel structures.
Designed for use with FFQ4 series milling cutter bodies. Insert is held by screw-type clamping. Conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards. Verify cutter body pocket geometry matches SOMT 1205 insert size and seating specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured in a vise or holder before seating or removing inserts. Use the manufacturer-recommended torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the cutter body specification — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the pocket seat for chips or debris before installing a new insert.
