The IRWIN IWAX3015 is a ship auger bit from the SPEEDBOR SUPREME series, designed for boring clean, deep holes through wood framing, timbers, and structural lumber. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with an oxide coating, it delivers durability and reduced friction during drilling. The 0.5-inch cutting diameter and 5-inch flute length make it suited for through-boring applications where a standard spade bit falls short. At 7.5 inches overall length and a 3-inch hex shank, it seats securely in compatible power drills and right-angle drills commonly used by electricians, plumbers, and HVAC installers running pipe and conduit through structural members.
This ship auger bit is used in residential and light commercial construction and retrofit work. Electricians and plumbers use auger bits like this to bore through wall plates, floor joists, and rim boards when routing wiring, conduit, or pipe. The standard point type self-starts in wood without requiring a pilot hole, and the long flute helps clear chips efficiently in deeper cuts. It is sold individually and fits into standard hex-drive chucks and bit extensions.
Designed for use with power drills and right-angle drills equipped with a 3-inch hex shank chuck or compatible hex-drive bit holder. Suitable for boring through wood framing, structural lumber, and similar wood substrates.
This bit is installed and used by electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians during rough-in work. Ensure the drill chuck or bit holder is fully seated and secured before operation. When boring through structural members, confirm that notching or boring meets applicable building code requirements for framing integrity. Allow the bit to clear chips periodically on deep bores to prevent binding and heat buildup.
