The IRWIN INDUSTRIAL TOOL CO 53402 is a No. 2 spiral screw extractor designed to remove broken studs, bolts, socket screws, and fittings from metal workpieces. The extractor features an aggressive left-hand spiral flute geometry that embeds deeper into the damaged fastener as rotational resistance increases, creating a self-tightening grip. This package includes 3 extractors per unit. Compatible with broken fasteners ranging from 5/32 inches to 7/32 inches in diameter, and used with a 7/64 inch drill bit. Intended for use by HVAC technicians, plumbers, pipefitters, electricians, and general maintenance trades.
This extractor is suited for residential and commercial service work where fastener heads have sheared, rounded, or snapped flush with the surface. Typical applications include removing seized bolts on equipment enclosures, broken pipe fittings, damaged socket screws in electrical panels or mechanical assemblies, and stripped fasteners encountered during equipment repair. The self-gripping spiral design reduces the risk of the extractor spinning free during removal attempts.
Designed for use on broken or damaged fasteners measuring 5/32 inches to 7/32 inches in diameter across metal materials.
Use a 7/64 inch drill bit to bore a pilot hole into the center of the broken fastener before inserting the extractor. Ensure the workpiece is secured and power to any associated equipment is shut off before beginning fastener removal. Turn the extractor counterclockwise with an appropriately sized tap wrench or chuck to engage and back out the broken fastener. Avoid applying excessive lateral force, which can cause extractor breakage.
