The IRWIN HANSON 7236 is a hex rethreading die designed to restore damaged or corroded external threads on bolts, studs, and threaded rod. It cuts a 3/8-24 UNF (Unified Fine) right-hand thread profile in carbon steel construction, making it durable enough for repeated use in field and shop environments. The hex body allows standard wrench engagement for controlled torque application without a dedicated die stock. Plumbers, pipefitters, electricians, and HVAC technicians reach for rethreading dies when fastener threads are too damaged to accept a nut cleanly but the fastener itself does not need full replacement.
This die is suited for maintenance and repair work across residential and light commercial settings. Common applications include restoring threads on bolts exposed to corrosion, paint overspray, weld spatter, or mechanical damage. The 3/8-24 UNF specification matches fine-thread fasteners found in mechanical assemblies, brackets, and equipment mounts typical in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical panel work. The compact hex form factor makes it practical in confined spaces where a full die stock cannot be maneuvered.
Designed for use on 3/8-24 UNF right-hand externally threaded fasteners including bolts, studs, and threaded rod.
Rethreading dies are typically used by mechanics, technicians, and tradespeople performing fastener repair without full thread cutting. Ensure the fastener or workpiece is secured before applying the die. Start the die squarely on the thread axis to prevent cross-threading or die damage. Use a cutting lubricant on the fastener when working with harder base materials to extend die life and improve thread quality.
