The IRWIN HANSON 53202 is a spiral flute screw extractor sized at 5/32 inches, designed to remove broken or seized 1/4 inch screws from metal, wood, and composite materials. The spiral flute design bites into the damaged fastener as reverse torque is applied, backing the screw out without damaging the surrounding material. The 1/2 inch hex shank provides a secure grip in a standard hand driver or drill chuck. This extractor is a shop staple for HVAC technicians, plumbers, electricians, and general maintenance professionals who regularly encounter stripped or snapped fasteners during service work.
The 53202 is suited for use in residential and light commercial service applications where 1/4 inch fasteners are common. Typical scenarios include removing broken sheet metal screws from HVAC equipment panels, stripped machine screws from electrical enclosures, and seized fasteners from plumbing fixtures or pipe flanges. Its compact size makes it practical for work in tight spaces where access to broken fasteners is limited.
Designed for extraction of broken or stripped 1/4 inch screws. Compatible with any standard 1/2 inch hex driver or drill chuck.
Installation is performed by trade professionals or experienced maintenance personnel. Before extraction, center-punch the broken fastener to guide the drill bit, then drill a pilot hole into the fastener using a left-hand twist drill bit sized appropriately for the extractor. Insert the 53202 into the pilot hole and apply steady reverse torque using a T-handle, tap wrench, or reversible drill set to reverse. Do not apply excessive lateral force, as extractor breakage can complicate removal further.
