The IRWIN 9439 is a hex rethreading die designed to restore damaged or corroded external threads on fasteners and threaded rod. Built from carbon steel, this die cuts a 7/16-14 UNC thread pattern in the right-hand direction. The 1-inch hex body seats securely in a standard tap wrench or adjustable wrench, allowing controlled torque during rethreading operations. Plumbers, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, and general maintenance professionals keep this die on hand for field repairs where replacing a threaded component is impractical. It is a single-piece die suitable for light to moderate rethreading tasks on carbon steel, mild steel, and similar ferrous fasteners.
This die is used wherever a 7/16-14 UNC external thread has been damaged by rust, impact, cross-threading, or weld spatter. Common applications include rethreading HVAC equipment mounting hardware, pipe flange bolts, structural fasteners, and equipment anchor studs. It is well suited to both residential and light commercial maintenance work. The compact hex form factor makes it practical for use in tight spaces where a full die stock is difficult to maneuver.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement die for use with standard 1-inch hex tap wrenches and compatible die holders suited to 7/16-14 UNC external thread rethreading applications.
This die is installed and operated by mechanics, plumbers, HVAC technicians, or electricians performing field thread repair. Before rethreading, de-energize or depressurize the system containing the fastener being serviced. Apply cutting oil to the die and the damaged thread before beginning to reduce heat and improve thread quality. Turn the die slowly with steady, even pressure, backing off periodically to clear chips and prevent binding.
