The IRWIN 53702 is a 2-piece spiral flute screw extractor and drill set designed to remove damaged, broken, or seized screws in metal, wood, and plastic substrates. The set includes one 7/64-inch drill bit and six spiral flute screw extractors sized 1 through 6, covering a compatible screw range of number 6 through 12 and 5/32 to 7/32 inches, as well as M4 to M6 metric fasteners. The spiral flute design bites into damaged fastener heads as reverse torque is applied, drawing the extractor deeper for a secure grip. Licensed tradespeople and experienced DIYers use this set for fastener recovery on HVAC equipment, plumbing fixtures, electrical panels, and general mechanical assemblies.
This set is suited for residential and light commercial service work where stripped, corroded, or shear-broken screws need to be backed out without damaging the surrounding material. The 5/32 to 7/32 inch size range covers the most common small fastener diameters encountered in equipment service and repair. The included drill bit is sized to create a pilot hole matched to the extractor geometry, allowing a clean, controlled extraction process on fasteners in tight or recessed locations.
Designed for use with number 6 through 12 screws and metric M4 to M6 fasteners in the 5/32 to 7/32 inch diameter range, as specified by the manufacturer.
Use with a reversible drill/driver set to reverse rotation before applying the extractor. Always drill the pilot hole straight and centered on the damaged fastener using the included 7/64-inch bit before seating the extractor. Wear appropriate eye protection when drilling into hardened or corroded fasteners. Do not apply excessive side load to the extractor shank, as spiral flute extractors are hardened and can snap if levered.
