The IPS 513306 is a detectable underground warning tape designed to mark buried gas lines and alert excavators before accidental strikes occur. Measuring 3 inches wide and 1,000 feet long, this yellow tape is embedded with a metallic core that allows detection with standard pipe and cable locating equipment, even after burial. It is installed directly above gas piping during backfill operations and serves as a passive safety barrier. Plumbers, gas fitters, and utility contractors install this tape as part of standard underground gas line installation to meet common trench-marking requirements.
This tape is used in residential and commercial underground gas line installations where code or best practice requires a warning layer above buried piping. It is laid in the trench at a specified depth above the pipe during backfill, so future excavation crews receive a visible and electronically detectable warning before reaching the line. The 1,000-foot roll length suits larger projects and reduces the number of roll changes on extended runs.
Designed as an OEM-style underground warning tape for use above buried residential and commercial gas piping systems in direct-bury trench applications.
Gas fitters and utility contractors install this tape during the backfill phase of underground gas line work, typically placed 12 inches above the top of the pipe per common trench-marking guidelines, though local codes or the authority having jurisdiction may specify a different depth. Shut off and verify the line is depressurized before working in the trench area. Consult IFGC and local amendments for specific burial and marking requirements. Avoid stretching or tearing the tape during placement, as damage to the metallic core can reduce detectability.
