The IPEX 9861171 is a CPVC Schedule 80 threaded nipple designed to connect two female-threaded (FPT) fittings in pressurized piping systems. Sized at 1-1/4 inches by 2 inches, this nipple is machined from Xirtec CPVC material rated for a maximum service temperature of 200 degrees F under continuous pressure, with tolerance for occasional exposure to boiling water at 212 degrees F. The design stress of the CPVC compound is 2,000 psi at 73 degrees F. Installed by licensed plumbers and pipefitters, this nipple is well-suited for hot and cold water distribution, chemical handling, and industrial process piping where corrosion resistance and thermal performance are required.
This nipple is appropriate for residential and commercial plumbing applications where CPVC Schedule 80 threaded connections are specified. Typical installations include hot water supply lines, chemical process piping, and industrial fluid handling systems. The threaded-on-both-ends (TOE) configuration allows direct make-up between two FPT fittings without additional adapters. Schedule 80 wall thickness provides additional pressure rating compared to Schedule 40, making it suitable for higher-demand service environments.
Designed for use in CPVC Schedule 80 threaded piping systems accepting 1-1/4-inch nominal pipe size connections. Compatible with standard NPT female-threaded CPVC, PVC, and metal fittings of the same nominal size.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and ASTM standards for CPVC piping. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded components. Use CPVC-compatible thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for CPVC service — do not use solvent-based pipe dopes incompatible with CPVC. Hand-tighten first, then apply no more than one to two additional turns with a strap wrench to avoid overtightening and cracking the fitting.
