The IPEX 36648 is a Schedule 80 PVC male x female reducing bushing designed for industrial and commercial piping systems. It reduces a 1/2 inch male threaded connection down to a 1/4 inch female threaded port, making it a practical transition fitting for process piping, chemical distribution lines, and other pressure-rated PVC systems. Schedule 80 wall thickness provides the added strength and pressure capacity needed in demanding service environments. The PVC material delivers strong resistance to a broad range of corrosive media and maintains a smooth interior bore throughout its service life. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting in both new construction and retrofit applications.
This bushing is suited for industrial process piping, chemical handling systems, and other applications requiring a durable, corrosion-resistant threaded reduction. The Schedule 80 rating makes it appropriate for higher-pressure service compared to Schedule 40 fittings. It is also listed for use with potable water systems in compliance with NSF and CSA International standards, extending its suitability to municipal water treatment, food processing support lines, and similar regulated environments. Both industrial facilities and commercial mechanical rooms are typical installation settings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 80 PVC threaded piping systems requiring a 1/2 inch male to 1/4 inch female bushing reduction.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter familiar with threaded PVC fittings and applicable plumbing codes. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any fittings. Use a strap wrench rather than metal pipe wrenches to avoid cracking the fitting body, and apply an appropriate PVC-compatible thread sealant or PTFE tape to all threaded connections. Do not over-torque threaded PVC fittings, as the material is not rated for the same mechanical loading as metal pipe fittings.
