The IO HVAC CONTROLS MBD-1612-BM is a manual balancing damper designed for airflow regulation in ducted HVAC distribution systems. It measures 16 inches by 12 inches and features a locking quadrant mounted on the 16-inch side, allowing technicians to set and hold a precise blade position once airflow is balanced. The locking quadrant prevents unintended adjustment after commissioning, making this damper well suited for zone balancing applications where consistent CFM delivery is required. Licensed HVAC technicians and sheet metal contractors install this type of damper during system startup or when rebalancing an existing distribution system.
This damper is intended for residential and light commercial ductwork where manual balancing is preferred over motorized control. It fits inline within rectangular duct runs and is typically installed in branch takeoffs or trunk lines where individual zone airflow needs to be throttled and locked. The 16-inch by 12-inch face size accommodates common rectangular duct dimensions in mid-to-large residential and small commercial installations. The locking quadrant on the 16-inch side provides accessible operator adjustment from the duct face.
Designed as an OEM-style manual balancing damper for installation in rectangular ducted HVAC air distribution systems requiring inline airflow control and balancing.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician or qualified sheet metal contractor. Shut down the air handling unit and confirm the system is de-energized before cutting into the duct and inserting the damper. Secure the damper to the duct using sheet metal screws and seal all joints with UL-listed foil tape or mastic per local mechanical code requirements. Once airflow is balanced and verified with a flow hood or anemometer, engage the locking quadrant to fix the blade position.
