The IO HVAC CONTROLS MBD-1410 is a manual balancing damper designed for airflow control in forced-air HVAC duct systems. It features a locking quadrant mechanism that allows a technician to set and hold a specific blade position, maintaining consistent airflow restriction without drift over time. The unit measures 14 inches wide by 10 inches in duct opening size, with an overall body depth of 8 inches and a height of 21 inches. Weighing 7.45 pounds, it is built for permanent installation in residential and light commercial ductwork. Licensed HVAC technicians and sheet metal contractors are the primary installers.
The MBD-1410 is suited for supply or return air duct branches where precise airflow balancing is required during system commissioning or seasonal adjustment. It is commonly installed in rectangular duct runs where individual zones or rooms need to be balanced against one another. The locking quadrant allows the set position to be secured after balancing is complete, preventing accidental adjustment. Typical applications include trunk-and-branch systems in residential construction and light commercial build-outs where manual balancing is specified in lieu of powered zone dampers.
Designed as an OEM-style manual balancing damper for rectangular duct systems sized to accept a 14-inch by 10-inch damper opening.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician or qualified sheet metal contractor in accordance with local mechanical codes and SMACNA duct construction standards. Shut down the air handling unit and confirm the system is de-energized before cutting into existing ductwork or securing the damper in place. The locking quadrant should be set and locked only after full system balancing has been completed and airflow measurements are verified. Do not overtighten the locking hardware, as this may damage the quadrant mechanism.
