The INTERNAL TOOL 86-1225-C is a solid carbide dovetail cutter designed for milling angled undercut slots and dovetail features in metallic workpieces. It carries a 90-degree included angle and a 0.75 inch cutter diameter with a 0.25 inch cutting width. The AlTiN coating improves heat resistance and tool life when running at elevated speeds in hard or abrasive materials. With four flutes and a micrograin carbide grade, this cutter delivers clean chip evacuation and consistent edge integrity. It mounts on a 0.5 inch shank and is installed by machinists and CNC toolroom technicians on vertical mills and machining centers.
This dovetail cutter is suited for production and toolroom applications across a range of metallic materials. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and super alloys including titanium. The right-hand cutting direction and four-flute geometry support both conventional and climb milling strategies. Typical applications include T-slot finishing, fixture plate dovetails, and slide-retention features on machine components. The short neck length of 0.25 inch keeps the cutter close to the shank for improved rigidity during interrupted cuts.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide dovetail cutter for use in CNC machining centers and manual vertical mills accepting a 0.5 inch shank. Compatible with workpiece materials coded P, M, K, N, and S per ISO material classification: steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metal, and super alloys and titanium.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before seating or removing the cutter from the toolholder. Use a torque-rated drawbar or collet nut wrench appropriate to the holder style - do not overtighten by impact. Verify runout with a dial indicator before engaging the cut, as micrograin carbide cutters are sensitive to eccentric loading.
