The INTERNAL TOOL 57-1040-C is a solid carbide Woodruff keyseat cutter designed for milling semicircular keyseats in shafts and mating components. Built from micrograin solid carbide with an AlTiN coating, it delivers extended tool life and heat resistance during demanding cutting operations. The cutter measures 0.25 inches in diameter with a cutting width of 5/64 inches (0.0781 inches) and runs on a 1/4-inch shank. Its straight tooth configuration and 6-tooth design produce clean, accurate keyseat profiles. Machinists and toolroom professionals working in job shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments are the primary users of this tool.
This keyseat cutter is suited for use on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines where precise keyseat slots are required. It is intended for cutting into steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. The compact neck diameter of 0.07 inches and neck length of 0.125 inches allow access to close-tolerance keyseat locations. Overall tool length is 2.5 inches, providing adequate reach for most standard shaft and bore configurations encountered in production and repair work.
Designed for use in standard 1/4-inch shank toolholders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Suitable for keyseat milling operations in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with rotating cutting tool safety. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before loading or removing the cutter from the toolholder. Verify shank seating and toolholder runout before cutting, as excess runout accelerates wear on carbide tools. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety standards when setting speeds, feeds, and depth of cut.
