The INTERNAL TOOL 20-1660 is an interior retaining ring grooving tool designed for cutting precision internal grooves in bored holes. Built from solid carbide with a micrograin grade material structure, it delivers consistent edge retention and dimensional accuracy in demanding machining applications. The tool features a 0.5-inch minimum bore entry, a 0.095-inch groove width, and a 0.5-inch shank diameter. Right-hand cutting geometry makes it compatible with standard lathe and boring setups. Machinists and toolroom technicians use this style of grooving tool when snap ring or retaining ring grooves must be machined to tight tolerances inside a bored feature.
This tool is suited for interior groove operations in production and job-shop environments. It handles internal retaining ring grooves in bores starting at 0.5 inches in diameter, with a maximum hole depth capacity of 1.5 inches. The 1.5-inch projection and 1.5-inch shank length allow reach into moderate-depth bores without excessive overhang. Right-hand cutting direction suits conventional spindle rotation on most lathes and CNC turning centers. Solid carbide construction makes it a practical choice for hardened materials, cast iron, and non-ferrous alloys where high-speed steel tooling would wear prematurely.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option for interior retaining ring grooving operations on lathes and CNC turning centers accepting a 0.5-inch round shank.
This tool is installed and used by machinists and toolroom technicians on manual lathes or CNC turning centers. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before securing the shank in the tool holder. Ensure the shank is clamped to the minimum recommended engagement depth for the holder in use. Do not exceed the maximum hole depth capacity of 1.5 inches, and verify bore diameter meets the 0.5-inch minimum before entry to avoid tool breakage.
