The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 6336765 is a VNMG-style solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the TT3020 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN plus TiN dual coating, delivering heat resistance and edge wear performance suited to demanding interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert features a negative rake geometry with a neutral hand orientation, a 35-degree included angle, and a 0.016-inch corner radius. With four available cutting edges per insert, it offers an economical cost-per-edge ratio for production turning environments. The EA chip breaker geometry is engineered to control chip flow at moderate to aggressive feed rates.
This insert is intended primarily for turning stainless steel, super-alloys, and titanium - workpiece material codes M and S. It fits standard VNMG toolholders using a clamp-style holding method and is applicable in both roughing and finishing passes within its rated maximum depth of cut. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle size and 331 insert size code make it a common selection for medium-duty turning applications in aerospace, medical, and industrial manufacturing environments where exotic and high-temperature alloys are routinely machined.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for VNMG-style clamp-seat toolholders accepting a 331 insert size (3/8-inch inscribed circle). ANSI code VNMG331EATT3020; ISO code VNMG160404EA TT3020.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and all axes locked out per shop lockout-tagout procedures. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not over-torque the clamp, as this can crack the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for chips or debris before seating a new edge. Verify tool offset compensation in the CNC control after indexing to a fresh cutting edge.
