The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 6212521 is a CNMG-style solid carbide turning insert designed for steel turning applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to grade TT8125B, this insert features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN applied in that sequence to provide wear resistance, heat resistance, and oxidation protection during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, and four usable cutting edges, making it a cost-effective choice for high-volume production turning. The 0.031-inch corner radius and MT chip breaker geometry work together to manage chip flow and reduce cutting forces on steel workpieces.
This insert is suited for external turning, facing, and light profiling operations where the primary workpiece material is steel, including low-carbon, medium-carbon, and alloy steel grades. The negative rake and N clearance geometry provide edge strength for stable cutting at moderate to aggressive feed rates. The MT chip breaker is optimized for medium-depth roughing and semi-finishing passes. Machinists in production shops and tool rooms running ISO P-class steel materials will find this insert appropriate for general-purpose turning programs where consistent tool life and predictable chip control are priorities.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct application insert for CNMG-style toolholders using clamp-style insert holding with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. The ISO designation for this insert is CNMG090408MT TT8125B, and it is compatible with any standard CNMG toolholder accepting that ISO geometry.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician using the appropriate clamp-screw torque wrench for CNMG insert pockets. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before each index. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping specifications and the applicable shop safety procedures for CNC turning operations.
