The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 6184976 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for demanding metal cutting applications. Designated CNMG432MGS in ANSI coding and CNMG120408MGS in ISO coding, it carries the TT3020 manufacturer grade and features a PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN dual coating for high wear resistance. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert geometry delivers stability and edge strength during roughing and medium machining passes. With four usable cutting edges, a neutral hand orientation, and a negative rake and side clearance configuration, this insert suits a broad range of turning setups where consistent performance on tough materials is critical.
This insert is engineered for turning stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium - workpiece material code S - where high wear resistance and toughness are required. It fits toolholders using clamp-style insert holding with a negative clearance (N) and medium tolerance (M) class fit. The MGS chip breaker geometry supports roughing and medium machining operations, making it appropriate for production turning environments where aggressive material removal rates are paired with controlled chip evacuation. Machinists and CNC turning center operators working in aerospace, medical, and energy component manufacturing will find this insert well suited to their material requirements.
Designed for use in clamp-style CNMG toolholders accepting a size 432 (ANSI) or 120408 (ISO) insert with negative clearance and medium tolerance class. Compatible with turning centers and CNC lathes configured for CNMG-style inserts targeting stainless steel, superalloy, and titanium workpieces.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating to maintain proper seating torque and insert stability. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping procedure; do not overtighten the clamp screw, as this can chip the carbide substrate.
