The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5901908 is a laydown-style carbide threading insert designed for internal threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the ISO code 16IRA60, it cuts a partial profile 60-degree thread form in a right-hand orientation across a pitch range of 0.50 to 1.50 mm. The insert is manufactured from carbide and finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, which provides thermal resistance and edge durability in demanding cutting environments. With an inscribed circle of 3/8 inch and a thickness of 0.1430 inches, it seats in standard 16IR-style toolholders. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC turning specialists in production and job-shop environments.
The 5901908 is suited for internal threading in a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, and cast iron as primary materials, with secondary capability in hard materials, superalloys, titanium, and non-ferrous metals. It fits standard 16IR-style laydown threading toolholders and is well matched for close-pitch threading passes where consistent thread form and edge life are priorities. One cutting edge is provided per side, making it a single-edge insert by design. It is appropriate for both production runs and prototype threading work on manual and CNC turning equipment.
Designed for use in 16IR-style laydown threading toolholders. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), hard materials (H), superalloys and titanium (S), and non-ferrous metals (N) per ISO material group classification.
Installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a stopped and locked-out state per applicable machine guarding and lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Do not regrind or modify the cutting edge.
