The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5873181 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for high-performance face and shoulder milling operations. Carrying the ANSI and ISO designation AOMT170564R IN2005, this right-hand, single-sided insert features a parallelogram shape with an 85-degree included angle and a 1/4 inch (0.2500 inch) corner radius. The micrograin carbide substrate is finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, providing thermal resistance and wear protection at cutting speeds typical of production milling. The insert measures 0.669 inches in length, 0.421 inches in inscribed circle diameter, and 0.218 inches in thickness, with two cutting edges and a sharp cutting edge style on a positive rake geometry.
This insert is suited for milling cast iron, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steel, superalloys, and titanium - material application codes K, M, P, and S. It is appropriate for use in production shops and job shops running face mills, shoulder mills, or high-feed milling programs where consistent tool life across difficult-to-machine materials is required. The insert is held in place by a screw and carries no chip breaker, making it well-suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where edge sharpness and surface finish consistency matter. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users.
Compatible with INGERSOLL cutter series 12J1G, 12L1G, 22J3G, 22J5G, 2J1G, and 2L1G as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before indexing or replacing inserts, ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out per shop safety procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the tool body specification; do not over-torque, as this can fracture the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new insert to maintain runout accuracy.
