The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5811351 is a solid carbide milling insert in the SDMW series, designed for high-performance face and shoulder milling in metalworking applications. It carries the IN1030 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiCN coating over a coarse-grain carbide substrate. The insert features a square shape with a 90-degree included angle, four cutting edges, and a neutral hand orientation. With a 0.315-inch inscribed circle and a 0.138-inch thickness, this insert is built for rigidity and precision. It is installed by machinists and tooling technicians in CNC milling operations targeting steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for roughing and semi-finishing milling passes on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces, making it effective in both stable and moderately flexible setups. A 15-degree relief angle provides clearance and edge protection during interrupted or continuous cuts. The corner-rounded cutting edge style helps extend tool life and manage chip formation. Typical install scenarios include production milling on vertical and horizontal machining centers where consistent edge life and material compatibility across P, M, and S ISO material groups are required.
Compatible with INGERSOLL cutter series 15_1E, 15J1E, 15N1E, 15T1E, and 5J1E. Conforms to ANSI code SDMW080305TN I IN1030 and ISO code SDMW080305TN IN1030. Held in place by screw-type insert clamping.
Insert installation is performed by machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the cutter body is fully de-energized and the machine spindle is locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and cutter-body manufacturer specifications when tightening the mounting screw to avoid insert cracking. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
