The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5701713 is a cermet, uncoated turning insert in the TPGX series, designed for precision metal-turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the grade designation CT3000 and features a triangular insert shape with a 60-degree included angle, providing three cutting edges per insert. The left-hand orientation and positive rake geometry suit finishing and semi-finishing passes. A 0.008-inch corner radius delivers clean surface finishes, while the 11-degree relief angle (clearance code P) reduces cutting forces on the workpiece. Machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments use this insert for consistent, repeatable results on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron.
This insert is intended for turning applications where cermet grades outperform coated carbide - particularly light-to-medium finishing cuts on steel and stainless steel. The chip breaker style L geometry controls chip formation during continuous turning. A 0.1180-inch hole diameter accommodates standard screw-clamp toolholders designed for TPGX-style inserts. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.2695 inches, making it suitable for semi-finish passes as well as fine finishing work. The positive rake face reduces heat generation and is well-suited to close-tolerance applications where surface finish is critical.
Designed for use in screw-clamp toolholders accepting TPGX-style inserts (ISO code TPGX090202L CT3000). Primary workpiece materials are steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) per ISO material classification codes.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications - do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for chips or damage before seating the new insert. Index to a fresh cutting edge or replace the insert when chipping, built-up edge, or surface-finish degradation is observed.
