The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5524210 is a solid carbide milling insert in the SOMT series, designed for indexable face and shoulder milling operations on CNC machining centers. It carries the ANSI and ISO designation SOMT130408SK IN2505 and features a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual coating over a micrograin carbide substrate. The insert is 0.504 inches wide and long, 0.183 inches thick, and has a corner radius of 0.031 inches (1/32 inch). With a positive rake geometry and chamfered cutting edge style, it is suited for productive metal removal across a range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and tooling specialists install and index these inserts during scheduled tool-change intervals.
This insert is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys and titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. The IN2505 grade targets demanding cutting applications where thermal resistance and edge stability are critical. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard right-hand and left-hand cutter bodies in the QR cutter series. It is a single-sided insert with four available cutting edges, held in place by a screw-mount system with no chip breaker geometry. Typical applications include roughing and semi-finishing passes on milling machines in production shop environments.
Designed for use in QR-series cutter bodies. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standard SOMT130408SK IN2505. Verify cutter body pocket dimensions and insert seat tolerances against the 0.504-inch inscribed circle and 0.183-inch thickness before indexing.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before accessing the cutter body pocket. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw - do not overtighten by feel alone; follow the cutter body documentation for fastener procedure. Inspect the insert seat and pocket for chips or debris before installing a new cutting edge.
