The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5523915 is a square SOMT09SK indexable drill insert in manufacturer grade IN2505 micrograin carbide. It carries a dual PVD coating of TiAlN and TiN for extended tool life in demanding cutting environments. The insert measures 0.362 inches inscribed circle, 0.362 inches in both length and width, and 0.166 inches thick, with a 0.031-inch corner radius. Designed for use in compatible QR-style indexable drills, this insert is installed and replaced by machinists and tool-crib technicians in production and job-shop environments. Its positive rake geometry promotes free cutting action and reduces cutting forces across a broad range of workpiece materials.
This insert is engineered for drilling operations in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material grades P, M, K, S, and H. It fits standard SOMT09T308SK tooling systems under both ANSI and ISO designations, making it a direct fit for QR-style indexable drill bodies that accept the 09T308 insert size. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in general manufacturing, aerospace component machining, and heavy industrial production runs where consistent insert geometry is critical to hole quality.
Designed for use in QR-style indexable drill bodies accepting SOMT09T308SK inserts per ANSI and ISO designation. Insert size code is 09, series SOMT-SK.
Installation and indexing of this insert should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the drill body is fully removed from the spindle and the machine is locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the drill body manufacturer to seat the insert clamp screw to the correct engagement - do not over-tighten by feel alone, as carbide inserts can fracture under excessive clamp force. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper seating and accurate hole geometry.
