The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5523461 is an SNMG-style square carbide turning insert designed for high-performance metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide and coated with an AlTiN and TiN dual-layer finish applied via PVD process, this insert delivers heat resistance and wear protection needed when cutting steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The TT9080 grade targets demanding workpiece materials where edge integrity and coating adhesion are critical. With 8 available cutting edges per insert, it offers extended tool life and cost efficiency per edge. The ET chip breaker geometry controls chip flow during turning operations, reducing tool pressure and improving surface finish at moderate to aggressive depths of cut.
This insert is suited for finish to semi-finish turning applications on steel and stainless steel components as well as superalloys and titanium in aerospace, energy, and general machining environments. It fits SNMG-compatible toolholders with clamp-style insert retention. The neutral hand orientation allows use in both right- and left-hand holder configurations. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.276 inches, making it appropriate for roughing passes where insert geometry and coating can manage heat buildup and chip load.
Designed for use in SNMG-compatible clamp-style turning toolholders accepting a 0.5-inch inscribed circle square insert. ANSI code SNMG433ETTT9080. ISO code SNMG120412ET TT9080.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten the clamp screw, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert edge.
