The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5523324 is a VNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for precision material removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from carbide substrate with a PVD-applied AlTiN and Titanium Nitride coating in the TT5080 grade, this insert delivers thermal resistance and edge hardness suited to demanding cutting environments. The diamond-shaped insert body carries a 35-degree included angle, a 0.016 inch corner radius, and an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches. Four cutting edges are available per insert, making it an efficient choice for production turning operations requiring consistent tool life.
This insert is intended for use in turning operations targeting stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces - materials that generate high cutting temperatures and demand coating systems that resist oxidation and crater wear. The EA chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation in these materials. With a neutral hand orientation and clamp-style holding, it fits standard VNMG insert pockets on production lathes used in aerospace, medical, and industrial manufacturing environments. The maximum depth of cut is 0.059 inches, making it appropriate for finishing and light-to-medium roughing passes.
Designed for use in standard VNMG insert pocket toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp-style retention. ISO code VNMG160404EA TT5080 identifies the insert geometry and grade for toolholder matching. Primary workpiece material codes M and S correspond to stainless steel and superalloy or titanium classifications per ISO turning insert standards.
This insert is installed and indexed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket before applying clamping torque, and inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or debris that could affect insert orientation. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping procedure to avoid insert cracking or pocket damage.
