The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5523124 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNGG series, grade TT5080, designed for precision metal-turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code D) with a neutral hand orientation and a corner radius of 0.016 inches. An AlTiN and Titanium Nitride PVD dual coating provides thermal resistance and surface hardness suited to demanding cutting environments. With four usable cutting edges and a clamp-style holding method, this insert delivers consistent performance across high-production turning applications. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators working in job shop or production environments.
This insert is engineered for turning stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium - workpiece material codes M and S. The DNGG431ML geometry with ML chip breaker is well suited to medium light cutting passes on difficult-to-machine materials where edge integrity and coating durability are critical. The negative rake and 0-degree relief angle (Clearance Code N, Tolerance Code G) position it for stable, controlled cuts. Typical applications include finish and semi-finish turning of aerospace, medical, and chemical-processing components where tight tolerances and surface finish consistency are required.
Designed for use in DNGG-series toolholders that accept a 431 insert size with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle. ISO equivalent designation is DNGG150404ML TT5080. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping system compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key at the manufacturer-specified clamp screw torque noted in the toolholder documentation - do not over-torque the clamp screw, as this can crack the insert. Inspect the pocket seat and shim for debris or damage before seating a new insert edge.
