The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5523094 is a VNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN dual coating, this insert is optimized for cutting stainless steel, super-alloys, and titanium. It features a 35-degree diamond shape (V-code), a neutral hand orientation, and a 0.031-inch corner radius. With four cutting edges per insert, it delivers extended tool life in demanding production environments. The TT5080 grade designation identifies the substrate and coating combination engineered for the M and S workpiece material categories per ISO classification.
This insert is suited for turning operations in aerospace, medical, and industrial manufacturing where stainless steel and high-temperature alloys are common workpiece materials. The FG chip breaker geometry is designed to manage chip formation at moderate to aggressive feed rates in finishing and semi-finishing passes. The VNMG series is a widely used indexable platform compatible with standard VNMG toolholders using a clamp-style holding method. The negative rake geometry and zero-degree relief angle (N clearance code) provide edge strength suited to interrupted cuts and hard materials. The ISO code for this insert is VNMG160408FG TT5080 and the ANSI code is VNMG332FGTT5080.
Designed for use in standard VNMG-series clamp-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. Primary workpiece material compatibility is stainless steel (ISO material code M) and super-alloys and titanium (ISO material code S).
Indexable turning inserts are installed and replaced by machinist or toolroom personnel following CNC lathe toolholder manufacturer torque and seating procedures. Always power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not use damaged inserts or worn toolholder pockets, as improper seating can cause insert fracture or workpiece damage.
