The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5523087 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying the ANSI designation SNMG643RT in grade TT5080. It features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) AlTiN and TiN dual coating that delivers high wear resistance combined with toughness, making it well suited for demanding interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert has a square shape (90-degree included angle), a neutral hand orientation, an inscribed circle of 0.75 inches, an insert length of 0.75 inches, and a corner radius of 0.047 inches. Eight cutting edges are available per insert, reducing per-edge tooling cost on high-volume jobs. The RT chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining operations.
This insert is designed for machining stainless steel (ISO material group M), superalloys, and titanium (ISO material group S) - workpiece materials that demand a coating and substrate with both wear resistance and edge toughness. Typical applications include turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers where consistent chip control and extended tool life in heat-resistant or work-hardening materials are critical. The negative rake and negative side clearance geometry pair with rigid clamping toolholders for stable, chatter-resistant cuts at moderate to heavy depths. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.354 inches, supporting productive roughing passes on tough alloy components.
Designed for use in SNMG-style clamping toolholders accepting a 643 ANSI size code insert (ISO size code 190612). Compatible with toolholder systems configured for square inserts with a 0-degree relief angle, negative rake, and clamp-style insert holding.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and in a locked-out, tagged-out state before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully and evenly in the pocket before tightening the clamp to ensure correct seating and prevent micro-fracture at the cutting edge. Verify toolholder pocket cleanliness and freedom from chips or burrs before indexing to a new cutting edge. Follow the machine tool and toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines for clamp screws.
