The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5522845 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for use on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide and coated with AlTiN and TiN via a PVD process, this insert is built for demanding metal-removal applications where heat resistance and edge retention are critical. It features an 80-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, and an EM chip breaker geometry. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, the corner radius is 3/64 inches (0.0469 inches), and the insert length is 0.508 inches. It is held in place via clamp-style toolholders and carries a negative rake angle with a clearance code of N and tolerance code of M.
This insert is engineered for turning operations on stainless steel, carbon and alloy steel, and super-alloys including titanium. The EM chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation in medium to finishing passes. It is suited for both roughing and finishing applications where consistent surface finish and tool life are priorities. Machinists and CNC operators working in aerospace, energy, and general manufacturing will find this insert appropriate for interrupted or continuous cuts on difficult-to-machine materials. Maximum depth of cut is 0.200 inches. The insert conforms to ISO standard CNMG120412EM TT9080 and ANSI code CNMG433EMTT9080.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fit for clamp-style CNMG toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick insert with a clearance code N and tolerance code M. ISO code CNMG120412EM TT9080 and ANSI code CNMG433EMTT9080 confirm fitment with toolholders specifying those standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten, as this can crack the insert. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
