The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5522304 is a DCMT-style carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It features a diamond insert shape with a 55-degree included angle, a 7-degree relief angle, and a 0.016-inch corner radius. The TT9080 grade substrate is coated with AlTiN (Aluminum Titanium Nitride) via a PVD process, delivering thermal resistance and hardness at the cutting edge. With a positive rake geometry and FG chip breaker, this insert promotes controlled chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shops or production environments are the primary users.
This insert is suited for turning steel, stainless steel, superalloy, and titanium workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, S. The FG chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light semi-finishing passes, making it appropriate for tight-tolerance surface finish requirements. The screw-lock holding method (Clearance Code C, Tolerance Code M) provides secure seating in compatible DCMT toolholders used in production turning cells or manual turning applications where consistent depth of cut and dimensional accuracy are required.
Designed for use in DCMT-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. ISO designation for this insert is DCMT11T304FG TT9080. Verify toolholder pocket geometry, clearance code, and tolerance code before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a full stop and all spindle motion confirmed ceased before touching the toolholder pocket. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified seating procedure when tightening the clamping screw - do not over-torque. Inspect the pocket seat for debris or damage before seating the new insert, as a contaminated pocket will affect surface finish and insert life. Index or replace the insert at the first sign of edge wear to prevent workpiece damage or dimensional drift.
