The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5520558 is a DNMG431FC TT9225 grade turning insert designed for precision finishing operations on difficult-to-machine materials. Built from solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer Al2O3 and TiCN coating, this insert delivers high wear resistance with moderate toughness across demanding cutting applications. The 55-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a sharp, consistent cutting geometry. With a 0.0156-inch corner radius and a negative rake, negative side clearance design, it is well suited for controlled, stable chip formation during finishing passes. Machinists and CNC operators in production environments will find this insert reliable across extended tool life cycles.
This insert is intended for finishing operations on stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO workpiece material codes M and S. It is used in turning centers and CNC lathes where tight tolerances and surface finish consistency are required. The FC chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts with a maximum depth of cut of 0.059 inches. The neutral hand orientation and clamp-style holding method make it compatible with standard DNMG toolholders used in both high-production and job-shop turning setups.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for DNMG431 series toolholders using clamp-style insert retention. ANSI Insert Code DNMG431 and ISO Insert Code DNMG150404FC TT9225. Compatible with primary workpiece materials including stainless steel (ISO M), superalloys, and titanium (ISO S).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware to seat the insert securely in the toolholder pocket - do not overtighten by hand estimation alone. Inspect the seating pocket for chips or debris before inserting to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
