The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5516167 is a VNMG-style cermet turning insert designed for precision finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. Carrying ANSI code VNMG332 and ISO code VNMG160408FG, this insert features a manufacturer grade of PV3010 with a PVD-applied TiN coating that delivers high wear resistance across a range of cutting conditions. The 35-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a sharp, low-contact geometry suited to light finishing passes. With a corner radius of 0.0310 inches and a maximum depth of cut of 0.0790 inches, it is built for tight tolerance surface finishing rather than heavy stock removal. Four usable cutting edges extend tool life and reduce per-edge cost in production environments.
This insert is intended for CNC and manual turning applications where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the primary objectives. The FG chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts on steel and stainless steel, where controlled chip flow and consistent surface quality are critical. Cast iron machining is also a supported application within the grade characteristics. Typical install environments include production turning centers, engine lathes, and multi-spindle machines running P, M, and K workpiece material classifications. The insert seats in a standard VNMG clamp-style toolholder using negative rake geometry.
Designed for use in clamp-style VNMG toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle insert with negative rake geometry. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) per ISO material classification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Secure the insert firmly in the toolholder pocket using the appropriate clamp screw torqued per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp components for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and edge stability.
