The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5512898 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the CCGT series, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with a 7-degree relief angle and a positive rake geometry, promoting clean chip flow and reduced cutting forces. The insert measures 0.382 inches in length with a 3/8-inch (0.375 inches) inscribed circle and a 0.008-inch corner radius. The FL chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip formation at light to moderate depths of cut. This insert is held in place via screw clamping and is sized to fit standard CCGT toolholders.
This insert is intended for finish and semi-finish turning of cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and super-alloys including titanium. The K10 uncoated solid carbide grade performs well in applications where coating adhesion or thermal sensitivity is a concern, such as when cutting aluminum, copper alloys, and titanium. The neutral hand designation means it is suited for standard right-hand or straight-turning operations. It is commonly used in production machining environments where tight tolerances and consistent surface finish are required.
Designed for use in CCGT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 5/32-inch thick insert. ANSI code CCGT32.50.5FLK10; ISO code CCGT09T302FL K10.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and spindle locked. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using the appropriate Torx or hex key. Inspect the insert seat and shim for wear or debris before indexing to a fresh cutting edge. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the K10 grade on hard or interrupted-cut materials.
