The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5140222 is a square-shaped indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable drill toolholders compatible with the Q drill style. Manufactured from carbide and coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, this insert delivers hardness and heat resistance suited to demanding metal-removal operations. It carries the IN2005 manufacturer grade and ANSI/ISO designation SPLT140512N-PH. The insert features a 0.563-inch inscribed circle, a thickness of 0.212 inches, and a corner radius of 0.047 inches. With four cutting edges and a positive rake geometry, it is engineered to reduce cutting forces and extend tool life in high-productivity drilling applications. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for drilling operations in ferrous and exotic workpiece materials including steel, cast iron, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. The PH chipbreaker geometry is optimized for chip control across these material groups. It fits within the SPLT-N-PH series and is sized to the 140512 insert size code, making it applicable in both production machining and job-shop environments where consistent hole quality is required.
Designed for use with Q-style compatible indexable drill toolholders within the SPLT-N-PH series, accepting inserts at the 140512 insert size designation.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered off and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Use the correct torque wrench and insert clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten or use improvised tools. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Verify correct insert orientation and seating before resuming cutting operations.
