The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5101279 is a solid carbide replaceable drill tip designed for use in modular indexable drill systems. It features a 140-degree point angle optimized for self-centering entry and clean hole formation across a broad range of workpiece materials. The tip is manufactured from micro grain solid carbide in grade IN2505 and carries a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual coating for extended wear resistance and heat management at the cutting edge. Coolant-through capability is built in, supporting chip evacuation and thermal control during deep-hole drilling operations. Installation uses a twist-lock holding method compatible with the TPA insert seat system.
This drill tip is suited for drilling applications in ferrous metals, stainless and heat-resistant alloys, cast iron, hardened steels, and superalloys, as indicated by the P, M, K, S, and H workpiece material classifications. It is used in CNC machining centers and turning centers wherever a modular drill body accepts a TPA-series replaceable tip. The 23.80mm cutting diameter and 0.383-inch functional length make it appropriate for medium-bore production drilling in both job shop and high-volume manufacturing environments. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary installers.
Designed for use with modular drill bodies accepting TPA-series replaceable tips at insert seat size 23, as specified by ISO number TPA2380R01. Compatible with workpiece materials classified under P, M, K, S, and H per ISO turning insert material codes.
Installation and indexing of replaceable drill tips should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out. Use the correct torque wrench and tip key specified by the drill body manufacturer for the TPA seat to ensure proper seating without overtightening. Inspect the insert pocket and coolant ports for chips or debris before seating the new tip. Verify coolant-through passages are clear and confirm correct tip orientation before resuming cutting operations.
