The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5101006 is a square carbide indexable drill insert in the SHLT-N-FS series, designed for use in indexable insert drills where consistent bore entry performance and long tool life are required. The insert carries an IN1030 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiCN coating, giving it strong wear resistance and thermal stability across demanding cutting operations. It measures 0.435 inches on the inscribed circle and 0.181 inches thick, with a 0.06-inch corner radius and a positive rake geometry. The FS chipbreaker promotes controlled chip flow. Licensed machinists and CNC tool-room technicians are the primary installers of this style of insert.
This insert is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, and super-alloys and titanium workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, and K. The square shape provides four usable cutting edges per insert, lowering the per-edge tooling cost across high-volume production and job-shop drilling applications. It fits indexable drill bodies in the compatible drill styles 15C, 15S, and DHU. The neutral cutting direction makes it appropriate for standard axial drilling operations on CNC machining centers and live-tool lathes where right- or left-hand designation is not required.
Designed for use in INGERSOLL indexable drill bodies of styles 15C, 15S, and DHU. ANSI and ISO designation SHLT110416N-FS. Insert size code 11, series SHLT-N-FS.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the spindle fully stopped and machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the drill body manufacturer to seat the insert clamp screw to the correct engagement without over-torquing the locking mechanism. Inspect the insert pocket and locating surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edges prior to use.
