The IMPORT BDNA-20947 is a reduced shank drill bit designed for drilling into ferrous and high-strength metals. It features a 31/64 inch cutting diameter paired with a 3/8 inch Weldon flat shank, which allows the bit to seat securely in compatible chucks and reduce slippage under torque. The 135-degree split point promotes fast penetration and self-centering without a pilot hole. At 4-7/8 inches overall length with a 3-1/4 inch flute, it suits most standard drill press and handheld power tool setups. The high-speed steel construction with an oxide finish provides adequate wear resistance for general-purpose metal drilling applications.
This bit is suited for use in machine shops, fabrication environments, and field service situations where drilling into carbon steel, cast iron, stainless steel, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, or tough alloy materials is required. The reduced shank design makes it practical when a larger cutting diameter is needed but the available chuck capacity is limited to 3/8 inch. It is a right-hand cut bit and performs best in standard drill presses, magnetic drills, and variable-speed hand drills. The three-flat Weldon shank style is compatible with set-screw style toolholders.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or supplemental drill bit for use with 3/8 inch Weldon flat set-screw toolholders and compatible drill chucks. Primary workpiece materials include carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, steel, and tough alloy.
This bit should be installed by a machinist or qualified tradesperson familiar with drill press or power tool operation. Secure the Weldon flat shank firmly in the toolholder set screw before use to prevent slippage under load. Always power down and de-energize the drill or press before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or cooling measures when drilling stainless steel or high alloy materials to extend tool life, even though this bit is rated for dry use.
