The IMPORT BDNA--20922-1 is a mechanics-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose hole drilling in metal and ferrous materials. It is manufactured from high-speed steel with an oxide finish and features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry without a center punch. The Weldon flat shank with three flats provides positive drive engagement in compatible chucks, reducing slippage under load. At 4-3/8 inches overall length and a 13/32 inch diameter (0.4062 inches decimal), this bit fits standard drill press and hand-drill applications where a shorter, stiffer profile is required. Right-hand cutting direction. Web-thinned parallel web construction improves chip evacuation.
This bit is suited for drilling carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and general steel stock. The mechanics-length body keeps the bit rigid in tight-clearance situations such as equipment frames, HVAC structural members, electrical panel knockouts, and plumbing support brackets. It is a practical general-purpose bit for maintenance mechanics, pipefitters, electricians, and HVAC technicians working in fabrication or field-service conditions where a shorter drill profile reduces deflection and improves hole accuracy.
Designed as a general-purpose mechanics-length drill bit for use with Weldon-shank-compatible drill chucks in hand drills and drill presses. Compatible workpiece materials include carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and general steel stock.
Install the bit fully into a Weldon flat-compatible chuck and confirm the flat seats against the set screw before applying torque. Always wear eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel or high alloy steel to manage heat buildup and extend cutting edge life. Replace the bit if the cutting edges show visible chipping or if feed pressure increases noticeably, as a dull bit in metal can work-harden the bore surface.
