The IMPORT BDNA-20703 is a straight flute plug tap designed to cut internal threads in through holes and blind holes where chip clearance is adequate. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a gold oxide coating for improved lubricity and mild corrosion resistance, this tap cuts 8-32 UNC right-hand threads with a 4-flute design and an H3 thread limit for consistent tolerance control. Overall length is 2.125 inches. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians rely on this tap for production tapping and repair threading operations in metal components.
This tap is suited for threading operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals in shop, manufacturing, and field maintenance environments. The plug chamfer — typically 3 to 5 threads of lead — makes it the most common choice for general-purpose through-hole tapping where a starting tap is not required. It is used in manual tap handles, tapping heads, and CNC tapping operations at appropriate feed rates.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or production tap for standard 8-32 UNC tapping operations in manual tap handles and power tapping equipment accepting the corresponding shank size.
Tapping should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician using the correct tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC spindle with a synchronized feed rate. Always use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and maintain thread quality. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping to prevent movement that can cause tap breakage. Inspect the tap for wear or damage before each use and replace when cutting resistance increases noticeably.
