The IMPORT 22442 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose metal drilling in trade and industrial applications. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a gold oxide coating, it provides improved lubricity and surface hardness compared to uncoated HSS. The bit measures 21/64 inch (0.3281 inch decimal) in diameter with an overall length of 4-5/8 inches and a flute length of 3-5/16 inches. The 118-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements, making it practical for hand-held drilling and drill press work alike. Plumbers, pipefitters, electricians, and HVAC technicians reach for jobber-length bits as a standard go-to for clearance holes, pilot holes, and general metal fabrication tasks.
This bit fits standard drilling operations across residential and light commercial job sites. It is suited for ferrous metals, mild steel, and similar materials encountered in mechanical, plumbing, and electrical rough-in work. The straight cylindrical shank is compatible with standard three-jaw chucks on corded and cordless drills and drill presses. The right-hand spiral flute clears chips efficiently during through-hole drilling. Series 314 identifies this as a general-purpose jobber-length configuration intended for repeated production or service use.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit for use in any standard three-jaw chuck accepting a 21/64 inch straight shank, including corded drills, cordless drills, and bench-mounted drill presses.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck and tighten all jaws evenly before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling ferrous metals to extend bit life and reduce heat. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or secured before applying feed pressure to prevent spinning. Follow applicable OSHA and shop-safety guidelines for rotating tool operation.
