The IMPORT -20870-G is a Letter G mechanics drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in ferrous metals and hard materials. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on contact and requires no center punch on most surfaces. The Weldon flat shank with three flats locks securely in compatible chucks to prevent slipping under torque. At 3-5/8 inches overall length with a 2-1/8 inch flute length, this bit is sized for typical mechanics drilling tasks on production floors, maintenance benches, and fabrication setups. Right-hand cut geometry suits standard drill press and handheld drill operation.
This bit is suited for drilling carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and general steel stock. The mechanics length profile keeps the bit rigid in tight clearance situations where longer jobber-length bits create deflection problems. It is a standard choice for machinists, maintenance technicians, and metal fabricators working with medium to heavy-duty ferrous workpieces where accurate hole entry and clean cut geometry are priorities.
Designed for use in drill presses, CNC drilling centers, and handheld drills equipped with Weldon flat shank tool holders. Suitable for drilling carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and general steel workpieces.
Install and secure this bit in a Weldon-style chuck or end-mill holder, verifying that the flat on the shank aligns with the set screw before tightening. Always power down and lock out the drill press or machine spindle before changing bits. Operate at appropriate surface footage for the workpiece material and bit diameter to avoid overheating the cutting edges. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so apply cutting fluid externally when drilling stainless or high alloy steel.
