The INTERNATIONAL COMFORT PRODUCTS EVM5X31M17A is a 2.5-ton multi-position V-configuration evaporator coil designed for use with R-454B refrigerant. Built with aluminum construction, this coil functions as the heat-absorption component in a split-system or packaged cooling setup, transferring heat from indoor air into the refrigerant circuit. It is engineered for residential and light-commercial HVAC applications and is installed by licensed HVAC technicians as part of a matched indoor-outdoor refrigerant system. The V-coil configuration increases surface area within a compact cabinet footprint, supporting efficient heat exchange at the 2.5-ton capacity range.
This evaporator coil is suited for split-system air conditioning and heat pump applications where R-454B refrigerant is specified. R-454B is an A2L low-GWP refrigerant increasingly specified in newer residential and commercial equipment to meet evolving environmental regulations. The EVM5X31M17A falls within the EVM5X product group and is designed for multi-position installation, making it adaptable to upflow, downflow, or horizontal air handler configurations depending on the specific cabinet and coil orientation supported by the system design.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation evaporator coil within the ICP and Heil product families for systems specified to use R-454B refrigerant at 2.5-ton capacity. Confirm system refrigerant type and tonnage match before installation.
Installation must be performed by an EPA Section 608-certified HVAC technician. De-energize all electrical power and recover system refrigerant in accordance with EPA regulations before opening the refrigerant circuit. R-454B is an A2L mildly flammable refrigerant — follow all applicable safety procedures, local codes, and manufacturer guidelines for handling A2L refrigerants during evacuation, leak testing, and charging. Verify coil orientation and airflow direction match the air handler cabinet requirements before brazing connections.
