The HYDE TOOLS 02975 is a stiff-blade taping knife built for drywall finishing, joint compound application, and surface prep work. The blade is made from brass, a non-ferrous metal that will not generate sparks on contact with hard surfaces, making it suitable for use in environments where flammable materials or vapors may be present. The blade measures 2.5 inches wide and 0.055 inches thick, providing the rigidity needed for controlled spreading and feathering of compound. The nylon handle offers a firm, lightweight grip. Total tool length is 7.25 inches. Drywall finishers, painters, and general contractors are the primary installers of this tool.
This taping knife is sized for detail work and tight areas where a wider knife is impractical. The 2.5-inch blade width makes it well suited for filling fastener dimples, spotting small repairs, and applying compound in corners or along narrow seams. The stiff blade flex rating means it resists deflection under pressure, which is preferred for applying compound in a thin, even layer rather than for feathering wide flat joints. It is also used in light surface prep tasks such as scraping loose paint or old compound before patching.
Designed as a standard hand tool for drywall finishing and surface prep applications. No specific system or equipment compatibility requirements apply to this product type.
No power source or utility shutoff is required for use of a manual taping knife. Clean the blade after each use to prevent compound buildup that can affect blade flex and edge performance. Do not use this knife as a prying tool, as blade distortion will affect finishing results. Brass blades are softer than steel and should not be used on abrasive surfaces that could deform the cutting edge.
