The HUBBELL GUM1 is a copper-free aluminum male-to-female union designed for use in explosionproof electrical conduit systems. It connects two pieces of rigid conduit or attaches conduit to junction boxes, fittings, and other electrical enclosures without requiring the conduit to be turned or removed. This design allows technicians to disconnect equipment for service or replacement while leaving the conduit run intact. The GUM1 is part of the Killark product line and is installed by licensed electricians working in classified hazardous locations where explosionproof fittings are required by code.
This union is suited for use in industrial, petrochemical, oil and gas, wastewater, and other hazardous location applications where rigid conduit systems must meet National Electrical Code requirements for explosionproof installations. Its copper-free aluminum construction makes it appropriate for environments where corrosion resistance and spark-risk reduction are concerns. It is sized for 1/2 inch conduit, making it a common choice in control panel and instrument wiring runs in Class I hazardous areas.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 1/2 inch rigid conduit systems requiring explosionproof-rated unions in hazardous location electrical installations.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician familiar with NEC Article 501 requirements for Class I hazardous locations. De-energize the circuit and verify the area is clear of ignitable atmospheres before beginning work. Use appropriate thread sealant rated for explosionproof fittings and ensure all threads are fully engaged per fitting specifications. Inspect the mating surfaces and threads for damage before installation to maintain the explosionproof integrity of the assembly.
