The HOUGEN 18240 is a carbide-tipped annular cutter designed for cutting clean, precise holes in metal without the material waste of a standard twist drill. With a 1.25-inch cutting diameter and a 2-inch depth of cut, this cutter handles thicker stock and deep-reach applications where standard hole saws fall short. The 3/4-inch shank with two flats locks securely into compatible magnetic drill press arbors, preventing slippage under load. An oxide straw finish provides basic corrosion resistance during storage and service. This cutter is installed by machinists, ironworkers, structural fabricators, and maintenance mechanics working with ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
The HOUGEN 18240 is suited for structural steel fabrication, mechanical and HVAC equipment mounting, electrical enclosure work, and general metalworking applications requiring a clean-walled hole. It cuts through aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and general steel plate. The 2-inch depth of cut makes it appropriate for use on thick plate, back-to-back structural members, or any application requiring a longer reach than a standard short-series annular cutter provides. It is used in shop environments and in the field with portable magnetic drill presses.
Designed for use with magnetic drill presses and annular cutter arbors accepting a 3/4-inch flatted shank. Suitable for cutting aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and general steel.
Installation is performed by machinists, ironworkers, or maintenance mechanics using a compatible magnetic drill press or milling machine with an appropriate arbor. Secure the cutter fully into the arbor, ensuring both flats engage the set screws before operation. Use cutting fluid or coolant appropriate to the workpiece material to extend cutter life, particularly when cutting stainless steel. De-energize or lock out any equipment being drilled before beginning work in accordance with applicable safety standards.
